Info on R155 transmission?
I have been looking for a 5 speed transmission for my '88 2wd pickup. I came across the R155 from a 2005+ Tacoma. It has the ratios I want, including a slightly higher 5th, plus it is new enough to find with low miles. I cannot find anyone who has swapped one, so I do not know if it will be worth the trouble or if I should just stay with a W56. Does anyone have some measurements or informtion of one? I assume it is a long input shaft?

The reason no one has ever used one in an 88 is because a bell housing to make it bolt up does not exist. Unless you are running a swapped engine from a newer Toyota. It would be easier to swap the complete drivetrain from a newer truck.

I was thinking that if it has the right length input shaft then a turbo bellhousing would work. I also came across an adapter that Marlin Crawler makes to extend the bellhousing so a turbo bellhousing can be used on transmissions with the short shaft. Of course this would all have to be factored in to the cost to see if it is worth it or not. As I research, it is looking more and more like this swap is not going to be worth the time or money, even if I could get the right bellhousing.
