96 Tacoma Owner...mini restoration in progress

I recently acquired a 96 Tacoma with 178k miles on it. Thought I'd post my progress in bringing this truck back to acceptable condition.

When I purchased it, the truck had just received a newly built motor/new clutch along with misc other engine modifications. The list includes an aftermarket header, cold air intake and electric fans.

It ran, but the timing was off and thats how I got it. Paid 2,000 for the truck in the condition you see below.

Paint was oxidized and severely neglected, sitting on stock FJ wheels/bfg's.

I then attacked the paint to bring back some shine.

Adding a product which restores the plastic.

Added a Curt Tow Hitch along with brake controller for my trailer.

Purchased some OEM 17inch 4runner wheels to replace the fj steelies.

I wasn't happy with the look, so I negotiated a deal to swap my wheels/tires for 15's with 31inch bridgestones.

More changes to come...with pictures.

I have made some interior changes, new headliner is on the way, new electric fans, new speakers etc.

Also, the truck is getting 22-24mpg...or was with 17's. I'm unsure what current mileage is, although I've just driven approx 100 highway miles so I'm going to figure out the mileage tomorrow.

I picked up a 92 sentra that sat for 6 years not running out in the elements. It was a black color like yours. Took me from 9 am to 9 pm to wash and and wax till it was a clean and clear shiny black. I very much understand what it takes to get the color back.
Glad you went to the 15's. Those tacoma rims looked a little goofy. Keep up the good work!

A few updates...mostly more attention to paint correction. Soon I'll be adding a new set of rear leaf springs and a bigger helper spring. Otherwise, the truck is great!

Yeah, that was also part of the restoration.

Got a great deal on them...as previous panels weren't in good shape.

Update, truck was just sold for 4,000.

Picked up a 1990 Toyota Pickup 4x4 4cyl ext cab auto for 2500.

My new project!
