Post Wiring 4 hella lights to single relay?

Wiring Question. Currently I have 2 of Hella 500's (w/ 100 watt bulbs) attached to the relay and wiring harness for a pair of Hella FF1000's. Works great. Is there any way to hook 4 lights up to the that single harness?

I'm thinking about 2 Hella 500's (55 watt bulbs) & 2 FF1000 (55 watt) bulbs, the total wattage will only be 20 higher that way...but the FF wiring harness is funky in that it runs a single positive lead up to the lights and a single ground return. Originally I didn't think it mattered and hooked the 500 relay up to it, oh but it does. While i'm not an electrical engineer (probably obviously at this point ), I do know a little about DC wiring. It seems it wouldn't make a difference if you ran two wires off the single lead on the relay or one wire, splitting it later, but it does. Off hand i'm not sure if the return ground goes to the relay or what seems more plausible a frame ground. (I wired it orinally about 3.5 years ago)

I Dont think so. I have 4 lights mounted to 1 switch but 2 relays.

I think your looking for problems if you try and hook 4 lights up to one relay.

I'm pretty sure I have the exact set-up you do - 2 500's, and 2 1000's with 55w all the way around - Trust me, it's a bad idea.......stick with 2 relays.

"What's that smell? Somethin' burnin'?"

Thanks all, 1 switch was really my biggest concern. I have two relays so that's not an issue and if I can use my existing switch it saves the time of having to go through the firewall again. So wow this is going to be easy. Can

Ontos or Michael, is it as simple as tapping the lead that runs from the first relay to the switch and attaching it to the corresponding pole on the other relay? If not can either of you draw up a quick wiring diagram to illustrate?

i switch with 2 relays powering 4 lights is fine as long as the relays dont require more power to switch than the switch will provide.... does that make sense?
