Windshield replacement How much $$?

Alright... well the truck I bought has a crack in the windshield... and yes I knew about it when I bought it. Insurance wont cover it since it was like that when they inspected it blah blah blah..

My questions are:
1. How much am I looking at spending. Whats a good price and bad price for when I call around.

2. Any thing I should look out for when I have them replaced? I know I was reading one post and someone said something about using toyota seals etc.

Thanks for any help...

How big is the crack? (e.g., wider than a dollar bill ?)

I've had good service from SafeLite Autoglass (safelite.com)... don't know if they have it in your area....

If it's a small crack or star chip...they can fill it in and you really have to look hard to see it... (useful if you don't want to replace the whole windshield, or if the crack is on the passenger side and not in your field of vision...)

But even if they replace the whole windshield, they can do it in your driveway or place of work/business with their mobile unit....

Yeah I seen the repair kits at walmart... imo it looked kinda chincy. But that safelite place your talking about, my insurance company gave me their phone number along with another place... I'm gonna call safelite first and just ask for an est on full replacement then quote around... I would have done that today but I didn't have the time. If their service is good but they are a lil more expensive I'll probably go with them just because of the reccomendation. BTW the crack is just one line about 12-16" long

Very important if you replace the glass to use a Toyota seal.
I have read that numerous times.

Some don't seal so well, but the Toyota one does.

Heh this is funny. I called a place called MTD autoglass in louisville. They quoted me 330$ to have it replaced and didn't mention anything about coming to my house and replacing it, along with when I asked if they used a generic seal or a toyota seal the woman on the phone said she didn't know what I was talking about... hrmm... Didn't make me too confident using them. So I tried safelite, no one answered and this was about 10:30am that didn't make me feel any better trying to use them. Next I called a place called Precision Auto body in the small town I live in outside of louisville. They put me on hold for about 3 mins then came back and gave me a number to a guy they give all their glass service to. I called them and the guy quoted me 215.67$ he told me that was installed at my house and it was guaranteed against leakage. I didn't ask if they used the toyota seal because if they guaranteed it agains leakage and it leaked I would just have them fix it.
I'm going to have it replaced probably sometime next week and I'll let you all know how it goes.
