What's your door sticker say?
OK, Im really confused now...Having new tires installed tomorrow and want to be sure I have the right PSI out the door to avoid any unusual wear like my present tires show (centers bald/overinflation)
Going with Dayton P267/75R16 A/T's. (see my prior post)
My door sticker say P225/75R15 at 29PSI cold, front & back
I know for a fact the truck came with 16" rims new...what gives? It's a '97 SR5 4x4. Why would it be different?
Regardless, should I stick with the 29 PSI recommendation for my new tires or does the larger size warrant more/less pressure?
What is the most common PSI front & back for the best ride quality...no towing or off-road, just around town/freeway?

tires only state maximum inflation pressure, not what they should be run at on a per vehicle situation.....
do a chalk test when you get the new one... due to varying factors there is no right or wrong # that everyone can use on every vehicle...

um, max pressure only @ 35psi...which is likely why my current tires are bald in the middle and almost new on the edges. I"m wondering:
#1 why it would say I have a 15" rim when it is actually a 16"
#2 what is a good psi to go with overall for a P/265/75R16 on our runners (32psi seems to be the norm)

I'll definitely do the chalk test first thing...I'll go w/32psi out the door and see how it feels on the way home, since that it what I'm running now for a fair comparision (btw~ the prior owner ran overinflated, not me). THanks jimabena74!

Unless you bought that truck brand new you can't be positive it came with 16" rims. I suppose that someone could have put junk yard doors on your truck or something if it had been in an accident...check your gear codes, see what you have, if you have 3.58's then you probably did start with 15" rims and 225's.

the door sticker isnt always accurate... msot of the vehicles got a general this is the tire size stock they came with, but it isnt really what they came with... there is really no rhyme or reason as to what came with what... there has been some speculation about it as to a trim package coming with a certain size or all vehicles coming with a certain size, but there hasnt been any actual proof on this... it is nothing to worry about though.....

The stickers for US built were one way and the stickers for JPN built were the other (re: actual tires V base model tires.) Can't rmember which one was accurate. Anyway, doesn't make any difference whatsover since they did not ship it with Daytons.... Go to the tire manufacturers website (Dayton) and find the inflation pressure tables. Weigh your truck front and rear and consult said tables. Or take the most excellent advice given by Jimabena and do the chalk thing - you will then get 100% perfect inflation for your loaded weight bias.
