What the hell is it? It's in a 90, auto, 3.0 runner

It changes the shift pattern on the transmission and allows it to rev higher (when it's in power mode) inbetween shifts...thereby providing more torque.

The last time I pressed that button all hell broke lose. Fire shot out the tail pipe and I burned through three brand new tires! Actually it is just the Electronic Controlled Transmission and it should make you tranny downshift a bit sooner and stay until higher RPM's.

It also lengthens/shortens the time the torque converter is in unlocked mode. Normal mode (recommended for towing because of less heat) engages locked mode quickly. Power mode is slower or not at all under WOT for max torque multiplication.
