Just check the truck out, 30k with just routine oil changes every 3-5k their should be no problems.

Ask the owner what he used it for, if it was a highway crusier and an occassional HomeDepot user then no worries, what is he getting to replace it, if it looks washed and waxed then he changed the oil, if he can tell you the exact name and weight of the oil in the thing then he changed it or at least knows what the shop uses.

Surprised that noone said check the underbody for damage, look for excess wear in the drivers seat, floor mat, gas pedal, shift knob, and steering wheel, look at the front end paint and compare it with other cars that have 30k on them.

Has he towed with it and what.

Other then rolling back the odometer to show that the truck has 30k and not 60 or 80 their should be no real concern, go to Toyota and have them check the vehicle history, maybe their was some warranty work or a recall that was done, if he takes it to the local oil change place then they will have records, carfax is BS every vehicle that has left my possession shows up on their with half the miles it actually had, odd how a 96 Pathfinder with 55k on it has 60k on it 4 years later or the 97 maxima I had went 3000 miles in 18 months.

edit: for the suspension jump up and down on it, front and back make sure the shocks resist wanting to bounce, and then their is the obvious like check the performance, cornering, shifting, and check the top speed

According to the carfax - the last checked in mileage was 75. There's no other entry past that and it's currently at 23K. The owner was in Virginia and is now 17 miles away from me in San Diego.

I recently met someone who used thier toy for a lot of long distance highway driving. the guy put on over 30k per year w/ amsoil. on an 94 v6 pickup. sold it in 97 and it actually had about 100 k on it, but looked like new in pretty much every way. he had a bra and a grille protector to keep the radiator and paint safe the whole time and when he sold it the OD only showed about 30k on it. how did he do it?

well he said when he bought the car he drove it aroudn a bit to get some miles on the real cluster, then he put in a cluster from another pickup. did all the maintenance himself, and when he sold the car, he sold it with the original cluster.

go figure - be really careful when buying a used car....

and by the way, i wouldn't trust carfax...
