weird noise on my 2000 Runner

I'm sure this is hard to diagnose without actually hearing it but I have a weird, almost grinding noise when I rev it to 2500 rpm and let it go. Its loudest in the cab but I can also hear it up front near the t-belt area. The t-belt was changed 15,000 miles ago. Do they need adjusting? Anyone else experience this problem? It doesn't seem to be lacking power and the gas milage is normal. Any help would be muchly appreciated!

Maybe a pulley.

Hmmm, pulley eh? That sounds like it could be that. I had the belts replaced and I started noticing the noise sometime after that. I hope its a pulley rather than a t-belt or something.

It could be an idler pulley which should have been replaced/or at least checked when the timing belt was done - if it is, you may be able to go back to the shop and haggle with them about fixing it.

My other thought is maybe its a belt tensioner since you started hearing the noise after you did your belts.

Thanks! Is there any way of knowing which it is by just the tension of the belts? They all seem tight. I suppose I could get a stethoscope and listen to see where the noise is coming from exactly. Thanks for you input too!

You could loosen the belts and then spin everything by hand. I've found bad pulleys, bearings, and tensioners that way.
