Question Waterpump or thermostat?

If I overheat at idle after a couple of minutes but cool back down when moving, which do guys think it could be, waterpump or thermostat? How could I test either one?

I just replaced the fan and fan clutch for the third freakin time and am desperate to try something else to see if it will stop the overheating. Truck didn't overheat before i decided to change the old and somewhat leaky fan clutch (which was probably engaged all the time).

thanks,

shawn

jsut htought of something else... there are ways to test the thermostat... or jsut replace it, they are cheap..... my truck didnt have a thermostat when i got it... ran cool until summer..... then it started getting hot...... from the research i did... it was becasue the water was actually flowing through the system so fast because there was no thermostat, that it wasnt in the radiator long enough to cool down

It might be the thermostat or water pump. The thermostat is easy enough to replace. It could be neither. Your radiator may be partially clogged. Just thought I would throw that in.
