Per the owners maual, I installed 6.5 qts of 5w30 oil plus new filter in my v8 4runner.

The oil level is at the full mark on the dip stick My question is what is ok on the dip stick? The manual sais it could be between the two dots. That is about a .25 qt of oil. Which is better, full or between the 2 dots?

My vote would be "full" (top dot on the dipstick). Engines all use some oil so why not have the full range (between the dots) available for "consumption"?

Fill it up to the Full mark, but don't let it fall below the last dot!

i believe in between the dots is 1 quart. maybe you meant .25 gallons? or maybe they just changed something behind my back

The manual means that any reading that is between the dots is OK. If it gets lower than the bottom dot, it's time to add oil. But I would also agree that full to the upper dot is better, especially if you spend any time driving in a non-level position.

I fill mine to the full mark. Sometimes it takes 7 quarts to get there on mine.
