Truck parts compatability
Hi everyone I've just bought a '88 Toyota truck and so far am loving it. I have a couple of questions.
1. I see everyone talking about differant generations. What generation is this and what are the differances between generations?
2. The box is rusty. The truck is an ext cab. What years have a compatable box? How hard is it to change the box? Do both short boxes and long boxes have the mounting bolts in the same place?
Thanks

Well here you go. Here is what I know:
Pickups-
Generation 1 (79-83)
Generation 2 (84-85) Solid axle and (86-88) IFS (Torsion Bar)
Generation 3 (89-95.5) IFS (Torsion Bar/rear leaf)
Generation 4 (95+) Tacoma's IFS (Coilover-Strut/rear leaf)
4Runners
Generation 1 (84-85) Solid Axle and (86-89) IFS (Torsion Bar/rear leaf)
Generation 2 (90-95) (Torsion Bar/rear coils)
Generation 3 (95.5-02?) (Coilover-Strut/rear coils)
Generation 4 (2003) (Don't know about these!)

I'm sure any '84-'88 short bed will work. A 2wd had smaller wheel wells but otherwise there is no difference between 4x4 and 2wd.
I think any short bed '79 to '95 will fit as far as body mounts go. The taillights changed a few times though.

I know you said any short box, but will a long box work?
Thanks for the tip about the guy selling his but $400 US = approx $600 can plus shipping and duty.
I've seen a couple for sale around where I live and just wanted to make sure they were compatable before I bought one.
