Water/meth injection works so well on Supras with 8.5:1 c/r that high octane fuel isn't always necessary. I can see where that might not be the case with the supercharged 3.4s, which will likely prevent me from ever buying the supercharger for mine.

you don't want any predetination. If done right you can have a well tuned s/c DD. However, if not setup a certain way you will ping. The 3.4 seems to be a particular beast when it comes to s/cers

The timing retard on mine is ridiculous, even at 91 octane. I had to crank it back 10 degrees at some points between 2000 and 2800 to get rid of the audible ping. I can only imagine what 89 octane would force me to do. I would never chance that.

I must be down 30 - 40 WHP at some points in my ping range due to timing retard. What's interesting is when I leave the retard/ping zone and the rig gets a big boost in power - almost like VVTi or something.

None taken. I appreciate feedback and as I've searched throughout this board, you've always been one to have good feedback. Should have remembered you as another one with the s/c...

Like the others have said a little searching will provide a lot of the info you are looking for.

If you would like a quick look at what a TRD supercharger with fuel mods will do for you, just click on the mod link in my signature and look at the bottom of the page. These numbers are true and real. You can click on the pics link and see the dyno chart and drag strip time slip.
As far as having to run premium fuel with a supercharger----yes you have to---no exceptions if you want the engine to stay in one piece and develop the power it should without having to retard the crap out of the timing. Think of it this way though---I went from 17MPG on 87 octane before the supercharger to 21MPG on 91 octane running the supercharger and mods. Do the math for a 1000 mile trip using the gas prices in your area figuring the two MPG figures I just mentioned and you will see that it costs me less now for that 1000 mile trip even having to run the premium.
My truck is a daily driver and I could not ask for it to run any smoother or be any more dependable. I am lucky and have never had pinging (detonation) issues and am running full timing advance.
I'll admit this was not an $1800 supercharger bolt-on and go. I have right at 7K in the drivetrain of this truck. The engine internals are completely stock. The valve covers have never been off.
7K sounds like a lot of money but trust me, when I mash hard on the skinny pedal and make that 300+ RWHP come alive, it's worth every penny and then some. I have to slap myself to get that dumbass grin off my face!

TRDOLMAN, is your truck lifted? If so, do you have any issues when driving fast with the lift? Just curious. 300+hp on a lifted truck scares the crap out of me...

Stock TRD suspension with no lift. I have no issues with this truck at all. Well----maybe the cops
