Just got my truck back from the header install. They even cleaned and detailed the inside, outside and engine and want to sponsor me for upcoming shows:
Here's my take on the headers and my set-up so far.
Supercharger: Good response and gains
Flex-a-lite fans: added alittle torque
TRD t-stat: Didn't see(feel)any differance
Denso Iridium 1-step cooler plugs: Didn't see(feel)any differance
ECT mod: Didn't see(feel)any differance
TRD headers: added alittle torque and mid-range power
With the headers, it took most of the day for the ecu to adjust. It has alittle more torque and alittle more mid-range. A good thing is that my ping is very little now. The headers somehow helped. Of course, doing a performance revue on the hottest day of the year(around 116 degress)probably isn't too acurate.:beach:
Believe it or not, the exhaust is actually "quiter". I thought it maybe alittle louder since owning vehicles with headers before.
I have come to believe in the people that have completed the fuel mods. My Runner is running well but you can tell that it's SCREAMING for more fuel. Especially at the top end and WOT. My engine is begging me for fuel and as soon as more funds are available, I'll be adding the 305cc Supra injectors, Walbro pump and piggy back comp.
If anyone else is thinking about adding headers after a s/c, I would honestly do the fuel mods first then the headers. In hind sight this is what I should've done. I'm happy with the results so far but will be happier once I start dumping more fuel into a thirsty system. I feel everything will fall into place better once this is completed.
Remember. This revue is being done with around 116 degress at an elevation around 1100 ft. above sea level here in Phoenix

Paul,
Thanks for the review. Good info.
I would suggest that you do the Walbro pump ASAP. Even before the rest of the fuel mods. It lowered my EGT between 75-150 degrees at WOT, so I know that I needed more fuel pressure. Now I believe that I am at the limits of my injectors. That is next.
Don't you love this heat?

Yep...the fuel pump will be next. It's cheap enough and doesn't appear too hard to install. Then I'll do the injectors & piggy back at the same time.
Paul
ps...the heats not too bad...I have to work in 800+ degrees at times :fireman:

True true. If you want help installing the Walbro, let me know. I did mine by my self in under 3 hours (with no transmission jack) I bet we could knock it out in an hour.

Paul: Thanks for the review. I am really curious as to how my NA 3.4 would respond to the headers. Overall, you sound pretty happy with Toyowest. I will keep them in mind for the future.
I cant wait for the heat to go away. Let me know if you need another wrencher or more tools when you mod next. I also have floor jacks and stands.
Looks like I may be getting air tools in Sept!

Those headers look sweet!
I had mine done at Hi-Per Coatings in Chandler about 3 years ago and the still are holding up excellent. The biggest thing I noticed after the headers was the motor pulled willingly and smoother through the entire rpm's. I have finally saved enough for the fuel mods and that is the next project.....

Thanks Dan:
I may hold you to that
Since my truck sits 3.5 inches above stock, I don't need to raise it to drop the tank. I also have a floor jack that could assist in lowering the tank and a Haynes manual with good pics. I'll probably do the pump in the next few weeks and the injectors/piggy back later this year.

Christian:
I spoke again to the guys at Toyowest about the fuel mods and when they suggested increasing wire size and the voltage to the pump, they said it would send more fuel but would also reduce the life of the pump by about 50%. Again...this is what they had to say.
