Toyota Japan

Toyota in Japan have recalled 340,000 Hilux Surfs, don't know if this will be the same for the 4-Runner.

This recall applies to the 2nd gen as the years indicated in the recall are the manufacturing dates of the 2nd gen surf.

It may or may not include the 4Runner. Toyota USA should confirm that.

R U sure of that, you and I both have '96 3rd Gen models, which were first introduced in August '95, I can't imagine Toyota parallel produced both 2nd & 3rd Gen models from Aug '95 to May '96

Here's a link to the toyota.jp website list of recalls. The list does not include the N185 Surf (3rd gen).

It does have long list of the N130 Surf (2nd gen) and the Hilux pickups.

http://toyota.jp/recall/2004/1026.html

Hope this helps.

you can use http://babelfish.altavista.com/ and insert the japanese address http://toyota.jp/recall/2004/1026.html . babelfish will translate the page from japanese to english. apparently the recall has to do with the steering system (relay rod of steering gear).

hope that helps.

"The trouble may cause the driver to loose control, according to the report. Toyota said it also shipped some 40,000 of the troubled Hilux model to Australia but has no plans to recall them "because driving and parking conditions are different" in Australia"

So what about the Surfs in the UK and also the 4-Runners in the US, surely they must be affected, although I'm not sure if Runners are built in Japan or the US.
