i did the hg when i bought the old girl, i helped the mechanic tear the top end off, replace the cracked head, had the valves done and reinstalled the replacement head. everything was done to spec. the rad on the other hand was a bit more troublesome. i think that is when the air pocket made its presence known. i can see where an incorrectly installed hg would cause problems, saw that on a 91 i was looking to buy before i got my 93. thanks for your suggestion, sometimes its the oddball suggestion that can provide the solution.

Did you ever resolve this overheating issue?
I am having the same problem and I can't figure it out.
Owner before me put new heads, valves, cams, Head gaskets,
and timing belt.
I have put on new clutch fan, thermostat, upper and lower hoses,
and it still runs hot down the highway.
