Hey,
Right now I have mine set at 8 degrees. I've got some pinging issues I'm trying to figure out and it doesn't ping as much at 8. However, when I get the pinging solved, I'm probably going to set it around 12. As far as the "factory" settings go, the idle should be at 800 and timing at 10 degrees. Well, have fun. ![]() DH6twinotter

Hey, I have a 94-runner and the sticker under the hood states 10 degrees BTDC. Previously the timing was way off due to a malfunctioning throttle positioning sensor and it seemed to have a lot of power, now with the TPS reset and timing set correctly it pings a little and has slightly less power(may still be due to the TPS as I havent replaced it yet). Either way the correct setting should be 10degrees BTDC. Hope this helps!

15 degrees advance, 5 degrees over stock, is pretty far, and you start running the risk of preignotion and the resulting engine damage. If you're running high octane fuel, this helps mitigate the enthusiastic advance. But, you may not be doing the jumpering you think you're doing. When you connect to the jumper, the engine should fall down on rpms and run differently within a second or two. You should also see a marked change in timing using a timing light. If you don't see that happening, you've got a fault code that is preventing the computer from responding to the jumpering. So in that case, the timing isn't very far advanced at all (I think it sits at around 12 degrees unjumpered). |
