Timing Question

I found out the other day that my timing was retarded by at least 15-20 degrees. It was way off. Apparently the mechanic who did my head gasket recall did not set it. Now it seems like I have less power. It is set right on 0 degrees now. Will adjusting my timing change my power?

Thanks for the help.

According to what I've heard, the answer to your question is yes. Advancing your timing to a point will increase your power. But if advanced too far, you'll induce pinging.

I had a similar experience with my timing and I set it to 10* BTDC as my manual recommends! Big performance difference. Someone on the board told me that people with the 3.0 have had luck with 12* so you might try that. Just be sure that the timing is set with the computer disconnected, engine warm and idle at 800rpm.

good luck

When I had my 3.0, I had the timing advanced to 12 Deg.. There was a noticeable difference in towing power.
