throwout bearing? clutch noise
I have been browsing the forum for about a month now and finally decided to register as you all see to be a great group of toyota owners. I have a 95 Runner and had the clutch replaced last summer after I tried to teach my girlfriend how to drive a manual and she fried it. (boy was that a dumb idea) I had a very reputable shop put in a new clutch and about a month later a noise started. Sounded like a squeaking fan belt. But I soon discovered that it went away as soon as the clutch pedal was depressed about an inch. I took it back and it was diagnosed as a squeaky throwout bearing. new bearing in...no problems for another month when the noise came back. The owner of the shop said it was rare for two to go bad and told me to watch the way I was driving after he put the next one in(no riding the pedal etc.) The noise went away and came back again yet a third time. This time he inspected the bearing when he took it out and said it appeared to be fine. He replaced the clutch fork as well. no noise for another month. The noise has now come back again for the fourth time and Im getting ready to take it back in. Any ideas as to which direction I could maybe suggest as it is getting really old having my Runner out of commision every month for 4 or 5 days at a time. thanks guys

Trying a new shop is a good idea, but what you might want to look at is where your clutch is at. you said that when you push down on it it goes away, your clutch my be rubbing against something in your tranny, or a difftent berring is out. there are lots a difftent problems, try taking it to the dealer, a little bit more expensive but they can get you a warrantee.

Curious...did you use an OEM clutch or a stronger aftermarket unit? I know that when I put a "racing" clutch in my old Supra that we also replaced the throw out bearing with a unit up to the challenge. A more powerfull clutch is going to have a lot more pedal pressure, and thus more pressure on that little throw out bearing.
...just a thought...

Welcome to the boards. Not a clue what your problem is either just would like to extend a warm welcome. Hopefully someone can get you an answer. My opinion I would take it somewhere else. Unless they keep doing this work every month for free. But even then the time it takes is annoying.

Not sure if your clutch assembly is the same as mine but got the following recommendations from my local toyota dealer:
use a small amout of white litium grease on the clutch fork fulcrum, and the 'clips that hold the fork to the throwout bearing hub, a thin layer of high temp. grease one tranny shaft and where is rides in the pilot bearing. This was followed by "so it won't squeek."
make sure the machanic doesn't use too much or it could sling on the clutch plate and cause slipping.
