I've been reading up a lot more on this issue. Not really uncommon in 4Runners with a lot of miles. This is my third 4Runner, as I had the 1st Gen. Turbo model in 1986, then a brand new 2nd Gen SR5 in 1995, and now this 3rd Gen since late 2007. Never had this problem with the other two Runners, and each had over 360,000 before I sold them.

This missing/misfire problem seems to confuse regular mechanics, as it masks it as an ignition electrical issue. Most people start with the wires, plugs, coil packs, boots, even injector cleaning, and various other DIY fixes before getting frustrated enough to take the vehicle in to a real Toyota mechanic that has been to this rodeo before. Most all cases ended up with a brand new fuel injector before the issue was resolved.

Man, I hated to read that part, which means I've lost my money ($260.00) already paid to the neighborhood jake-leg mechanic shop, and now have to pony-up bigger bucks to the more reputable & knowledgeable Toyota technicians. Sometimes trying to go cheap ends up costing more.
