suggestions for at home tune-up

i have had my 89 4runner for like 3 days. i bought it from a college kid with well to do parents. they paid for any repairs at the sign of trouble. he said its about due for a tune up.

so my question is what kind of things should i replace, drain, swap, whatever, to keep my runner running another 100k? i know the obvious filters and spark plugs, i just want to know what brands and stuff are good for the 1st gens.

stay away from fram/penzoil oil filters... stick with synthetic oil or castrol, valvoline .. the reason is Quaker Sstate is owned by penzoil and penzoil leaves sludge over time... synthetics are better but cost more....

might want to flush out the tranny, and rear end and tcase fluids.... then should be good to go for awhile... look into the ngk v power plugs.. might wnat to look at replacing the 02 sensors, and also cleaning the throttle body as well... run some seafoam through the engine, replace the fuel filter, and the plug wires... should run like a new truck

Do a search on FRAM filters. Mucho postos!

First...If it's running ok, check your fuel filter out. Plugs, airfilter, oil all get changed but the fuel filter is ignored.

Second...Since you want to spend some money on it. Do an Auto RX treatment. Do the high mileage treatment where you treat it twice. After the two treatments and two rinses, switch to synthetic oil (Mobil1 is good).

Third...Drive it. But use a little sense and don't do anything stupid, just expect every other driver to be stupid. Enjoy!
