Question Stock height question

I was just wondering, what's the factory height for the front and rear of a 2nd gen 4Runner? Like from the top of the rim to the wheel well/fender lip or something. Thanks.

That would be your ass sag. Downey coils will fix her right up. Mine should be here anyday!

Lol, yeah I just measured, my front end is about 36.5 inches and the rear was around 34.5-35. If I can ever get hired someplace I'll have to look into new springs, how much are you getting yours for?

If I remember right, my Downey's were about $165 a couple years ago.

Bryan,

The stock front height measured from the top of the wheel to the bottom of the fender should be between 13.5 and 14 inches. Unfortunately, I could not find the data for the rear. Depending on what kind of rear springs you install, you may find that the rear end is higher than the front (just the opposite of what you have now). You can adjust the front end height by tightening (clockwise will raise the height) or loosening (counter-clockwise will lower the height) the torsion bars.

Check out this link for adjusting the torsion bars.

If you need to crank them above 15 inches, you may want to purchase some after market bars. Here's an article for changing the torsion bars

A pair of torsion bars will run you around $100.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm not really looking to raise the front to much, I wondered about the heights mainly to see how much my rear had sagged. At the mement the main things I'd like to purchase are a new set of rear springs, and some BFGoodrich A/T's.

That's cool. I just wanted to give you a heads up on the possiblility that you may end up with the opposite situation that you have now. It was a suprise to me how much higher the rear end was over the front after getting the springs replaced. I had to raise the front of my 4runner about an inch to level the truck. I have the stock torsion bars and have noticed no negative effects yet (just did it a week ago). The great thing is it only took about 15 minutes to do--and that includes the time to jack up the car!

I think you'll like the BFG's. I'm on my second set. The first pair got me about 60K. I may have gotten another 15K, but I picked up nails near the sidewalls on both right side tires. They couldn't be repaired, so I replaced all four.

I doubt I'll be getting the springs that soon, still in search of a job. It's nice to hear good things about the tires. A friend of mine with a Cherokee has a set and he's never had any trouble with them, that pretty much proved they are good tires, after seeing how he abuses them lol.
