Exclamation Steering Linkage Broke - HELP!!

Well the steering linkage on the idler arm broke. Basically the bolt that the castlenut is secured to has broken/slipped/fallen out of the idler arm itself. Will I need to buy a new idler arm by itself or can I somehow rebuild the idler arm's lone bushing that holds the steering linkage?

Im still driving this truck every day, but I DO NOT trust it in this condition so I need some help ASAP if possible.

Thanks,
Steve

a picture is worth 1000 words...

On the idler arm itself (1) the smaller bolt that is the steering linkage has come out of the bushing at the idler arms end. What should I do?

Looks like it is off to the boneyard for a working one!
Not sure if you can rebuild those or not (anyone else?)

I'm not quite sure what is broken/worn, but you can get a rebuild kit from toyota for the bushings. Much cheaper than buying a new one as long as everything is still straight.

that's just it, the actual idler arm - not the assembly. There are two bolts coming off of the actual arm. The longer one goes through the shround and is anchored up above the entire assembly. The smaller bolt coming off of the idler arm attachest to the steering bar. This bolt has broken/fallen off of the idler arm, but is still engaged into it's socket....

Im going to do an indler arm rebuild nonetheless, but an idler arm rebuild wont help my current problem...

Damn I'm an idiot - lack of sleep does this to me. It never occured to me until now that I never asked a valid question.

1. Does anyone have a blow up schematic of the idler arm?
2. Will the actual pivot arm in the idler arm assembly have to be replaced or just that bushing/bolt on that pivoting arm?

Thanks in advance

has tech Manual for 1985

Hi!
I have a PDF file for an 85... it shows a blow up of the whole steering assembly and the How To section.... If it will work for you, I will try to attach them in here!
I am still trying to figure out how to NOT send the whole PDF file!! All 1100 pages! :pat:
P.S. I would be willing to give "YotaTech" the whole PDF file if they wanted to share it with the forum users !
