Spring over axle?

Spring over axle?

How is it done?And what are the benifits? of a spring over axle..SOA

What vehicle is it being done to. I'm sure there are differences based on the vehicle, but in general terms, the springs are re-located to the top of the axle, the knuckles are cut, turned, and welded back in place. It's generally recommended to go to a hi-steer setup.

Benefits are that you continue using the soft stock springs, which usually allow for more/easier flex than stiffer lift springs.

All 4x4 Toyota pickup trucks and 4Runners were sprung OVER axle from the factory. The only ones that were sprung UNDER are Land Cruisers.


I don't think you really HAVE to cut and turn the knuckles unless you want, but you HAVE to cut and relocate the spring perches.

Yes, technically you don't HAVE to turn the knuckles, but it's very highly recommended.
