Slider group buy!!!

For a backgrounder, reference this thread:

https://www.yotatech.com/forums/show...threadid=10694

The short form is that I've talked to Richard Stubbs (http://www.weldpro.homestead.com/) and he's willing to give folks a deal if we do a "group buy".

WAHOOO!!!!

Now, before quoting a price, he'd like to know up front how many people are _really_ interested in doing this. He needs to factor in dedicating time and materials to the number of orders that this will generate, and the price will vary based on that.

I've offered up to Richard that I'll take point on this so that he doesn't have to deal with a bunch of individual emails from folks. I've told him that I'd get back to him by Monday morning with a real head count.

One other thing that folks should know up front is that he'll accept PayPal, but for those that want to use it, he's requesting that you pay a $7 surcharge. The alternate form of payment is a Money Order - Richard doesn't want to accept credit cards for this transaction.

So... Please drop me a PM or an email (mark@midiwall.com) or post here if you're serious about buying a set of sliders from Richard. As a ballpark, the pricing will be "close" to what you see them going for on eBay which is around $200 (plus shipping!). Again, this will vary based on the number of people that are interested.

I'll bump this thread periodically to keep it in the light.

Thanks!

Mark

I just wanted to say that Richard was a great guy to deal with when I won my sliders awhile ago. Plus the shipping wasn't too bad from Susanville, CA to Redmond, WA($29.00). It was still cheaper than if I bought from Badlands.

I'm glad it worked out for you, these are really great quality. Just for reference shipping to Louisiana was an even $50. Now's the time for all you "group buyers" to put up !

I got an email from a member who had a couple of very good questions. I wanted to answer them here for all to see.

Are 2nd gens included in this group buy?

Yes, definitely. This is not limited to any specific generation of Runner, or even to the Runner alone. Tacoma's are included as well. To paraphrase from Richard's auction listing:
This {group buy} is for a set for any year Toyota truck 79-03 any model from 4runner to regular cab, extra cab, or double cab truck or Tacoma 4WD. When you place your order, you will specify year , and body style of your Toyota.

Are these sliders as strong as others we've seen? Can they support the whole weight of the truck?

Absolutely! To quote Richard:
They are tough! enough so that you can use a hi lift jack to lift up the truck using just the sliders.

Is a bolt-on model available?

I have an email into Richard about this. My guess is "no", because of potential strength issues. But I don't know enough to be sure. I'll let you know as soo as I find out.

Also remember that shipping is extra. You can compute the approximate shipping charges by:
  • Go to ups.com - http://wwwapps.ups.com/QCCWebApp/request?loc=en_US
  • For the Origin zip code, enter "96130"
  • Enter your zip code for the Destination
  • Check YES or NO for residential address
  • Click SUBMIT
  • Check "Daily Pickup" then "Yes" for billing to a UPS account.
  • Set "Your Packaging" for Packagin
  • Enter 55lbs for the weight
  • Enter Length = 81, Width = 16, Height = 6
  • Enter $300 for insured value
  • Click CALCULATE, the shipping charges will be shown on the next page
NOTE: These are APPROXIMATE, but close. The actual charge may be higher or lower based on the actual dimensions of your sliders.

Hope that helps!

Mark

and... THANK'S WILD BILL!

I can testify to their strength. I got stuck in the mud, and I had two guys on both sides jumping up and down on them, trying to provide some extra traction, and they held up perfectly.

Update!

I heard from Richard this morning on the question of bolt-on units.

Is a bolt-on model available?

No, all of the sliders are welded on. Reason being:
  • They unfortunately would have to cost more.
  • To be able to be as strong as the welded versions there will have to be a rather complicated assembly for the frame mount.
  • I have had only two requests for this in the past (just not very much demand)

We're at 4 people and growing!

I'm interested, but I can only be interested up to the point of knowing how much they will cost. So you could put me down for a strong "depends"? Heh-heh. If it's ~150-175 (std cab Taco), count me in.

We have pricing!

We have pricing!

Richard just wrote me with his price for this buy...

Any set of sliders, whether they be for a 4Runner or a Tacoma, will be US $185 plus shipping. See above for instructions on estimating the shipping charges to you. Remember also that Richard _will_ accept PayPal but with a $7 surcharge. The preferred form of payment is via money order.

At this point, I think we need to get a real headcount of how many people are in on this.

If you know that you want a set and are ready to commit, then please drop me an email (mark@midiwall.com) with the following info:
  • Name
  • Full shipping address
  • Phone number
  • Alias here on YotaTech
  • Regular email address (Richard is not here on the forum
  • Expected form of payment, (PayPal or MO)
  • Year, make and model of your rig
I'll collect this info and pass it on to Richard. I promise that your personal info will not be shared with anyone except for Richard.

Once we cut off the name collection, then you'll need to send your payment to Richard.

Please do not do this just yet.

I'm trying to take the load off of Richard for this initial step of getting things organized.

Let's give this out until say, next Wednesday (5/21) and see where we are.

Thank you all for your interest!

Mark (speaking for myself and especially Richard!)

p.s. Richard is truly floored by all the support that his past buyers have given him on the board. He's soundin' pretty dern happy right now!

With this price, are they powder coated? Is that price fixed or can we still negotiate it between 150-175 dollars since it is a group buy? Just asking because I'm thinking of getting a pair too.

Thanks.

$185 is pretty good I'll agree...

BUT is there a possible way to drop it down?
Maybe you could suggest to him that if he dropped it a little lower he'll more than likely pick up another 2 customers (Gene and 4X4CPOSEADOG).

By the way, thanks for spearheading this Mark - you da man!

Have you shopped around? I'd be very impressed if you could dig up a set of comparable sliders for under $200. Trust me this is a good deal and a great product, you're not going to beat it anywhere else (unless you have some insider help with a welder).

FYI these come bare metal, if you're going to really use them then just rattle can them, they're going to get scratched up anyway and it makes fo reasy touch-up.

I have no issue with the price
I was just thinking that it'd be nice if we could get as many people in on this as possible. Besides... $185 is about what it's going for on the auctions.
Since it's a group buy maybe he'd be willing to flex down a little.

I wish I knew how to weld... that just looks SO cool on TV
Can you get any more macho with tools???

Maybe I'll take a course
