skid control and center diff lock...this happen to anyone?

While wheelin' in the snow yesterday...I had locked the center diff in my 4Runner (2002).

...went around a corner and slightly fish-tailed and the skid control activated and the light came on??? (yet the VSC OFF light was on)

what gives?...I thought when u lock the center diff it turnes off all the electronic aides?

is this normal?

Locking the centre diff turns off the VSC, but doesn't turn off the traction control or ABS.

↑ Bingo! And unfortunately, yes, its normal. To my understanding, the only way A-Trac can be completely disable is with the T-case in 4Lo and the tranny in Lo (1st gear). Or you can do the AndyMod to manually disable it.

Your '02 does not have a locker. You have open diffs with traction control (TRAC) and vehicle stability control (VSC). Both of these systems rely on the ABS to function. When you depress the 'center diff lock' button, you are simply forcing the truck to send equal amounts of torque to the front and the rear. At the same time, the VSC is deactivated. But the TRAC stays active.

The beauty of my "AndyMod" is that by flipping one switch, you disable all of these systems and are able to power your way through the bad stuff in the traditional manner - wheelspin The AndyMod can be engaged in 2WD, 4WD, and 4WD with center diff locked.

This is a very easy mod that should take about 30 minutes to install once you've assembled the wire, a switch and a few connectors. Do a search here to find many posts on the topic.
