shock/strut package suggestions?
I have a 99 4runner SR5 4WD Automatic with 167,000 miles on it.. its has 265/70/16's on stock wheels. I am wondering what suggestions people have for replacement shocks/struts. I have thought about giving it a little lift, but honestly this is my first 4wd and it sits plenty high enough right now.
So I am figuring to keep it stock height but improve the ride... It rides decent now, but is kinda bouncy so I figure considering the mileage its a good investment to replace them.. so what have people used? |

How about Bilsteins? I am looking for maybe a slightly softer ride... a little less jarring at bridges etc..
how about the Tokico's for ride ? |

I just put a new set of Tokicos on and I thing they ride pretty good. More controlled over rough roads, and more civilized over pot holes in the city. From what people say around here, the Bilsteins are kindda stiff.

Thanks sounds like Tokico's are more for what I am looking for. I was worried the billsteins would be stiff.. used them in the past on a honda and they were noticably stiffer.

Sonoran Steel has a pretty good price on them. $221.50 + shipping for a whole set. He'll get them to you quick too.

Re Bilsteins:
I guess it depends on which model you get, but they will be stiffer. Better control than stock too, but you need a few hundred pounds of cargo to make ride nice over potholes etc. I got them but I am thinking on replacing them with Tokico (either the OEM models or Trek masters).
I think you will always have some bounce, it seems to me to be the way these trucks ride.

Thanks for the additional information... AJUSA is a vendor I guess?
I tried the search function before posting.. I could not find comparison differences.. which is what I am looking for.. Also would progressive rate springs help this too? Last edited by bratliff : 07-13-2007 at 01:03 PM. |
