Should I just buy a nice truck with a 22re in it and slap (yes I know there is more work than just slapping, I figure some kicking too =P) a turbo kit in it? or should I wait forever?
I bought a mint 88 4runner. I'm "slapping" a turbo in it.
Well, "slap" isn't exactly right, but I'm adding a turbo...
And a new motor... And a stand alone fuel injection system.

Well, you probably get 21+ mpg, so who is to complain?
The 22RET I think was rated for 150 hp. Would that satisfy you?
Jeff Mosk is getting over 230 at the rear wheels out of his.

Pistons are different. Head is different. I think the turbo oil pump is a high volume variant (but it will swap). Almost all of it will interchange. You could buy a 22ret rebuild kit and put it on a 22RE motor, all you'd need is to drill and tap oil feed / oil return. The 22RE head will give you a hair more compression.

The stock toyota turbo is largely considered trash. It's expensive to rebuild, it's setup for low boost (6-7 psi) and it's a general pain in the ass.

Email me if you want more info - I don't frequent this forum a lot. I'm picking up my 22RET core next weekend and I'm starting the rebuild. I'm using a core because I want to keep my 4runner on the road AND I'm too lazy to drill and tap the block! dginther@gmail.com

I appreciate any info that anyone can give me, there's not a whole lot of stuff out there about these motors. I DID try searching for info on the forum so plz no "Use the search button newb!" replys. =)
Thanks,
Lanny
