Scrreeeeech, clickity clickity. Axle bearings or Diff?
I searched for that....to no avail. 96 SC'd 3.4 running 4:88's with ARB locking rear and 33's. Random taking off (mellow) from a light and turning right or left (happened 2x) and the rear of my truck sounds like I ran over a herd of cats made of re-bar and dry rubber. Then, it's gone. Cant reproduce it, only happened twice, but it sounds expensive and I'd rather fix it BEFORE I experience some sort of catastrophic failure in 115 degree heat.
I've changed the diff fluid, (no chunks of metal) checked and adjusted the rear brakes and greased the u-joints like they were gonna be in a porn flick. Still happens.
Also has a consistant squeek/clicking coming from the rear during normal driving. Amplified while driving beside a wall.
I DID haul 35 12" concrete pavers and 350lbs of sand recently and....well, I sagged and it made some clicking noises.
Have I fragged my axle bearings?
Sorry so long-winded, and I'm SURE this has been addressed at some level before, but so many posts here are never updated with the final solution or have vague posting titles (like mine....woops) that I could spend days searching and never find an answer.

Hmmm... a small rock wedged between caliper and dust shield that is now worn down so no noise? Is the spare tire underneath and slightly loose in the carrier?
I've had the annoying clickity, click from a rock wedged in the tire tread....

2 separate sounds...the big scary noise I am unable to reproduce or find a catalyst for what makes it happen. The squeek and click is constant and amplified by driving beside a wall.
We lifted the rear and put it in drive before to see if we could narrow it down, but it wouldn't do it. (no load?)
Also stood on the bumper and held on to the roof-rack while someone drove at 15-20mph but couldn't really narrow it down that way either.

Well, figured it out....pulled the passenger axle and found this:
Axle bearing looks like a grenade went off inside there!
Taking it to have new bearings pressed in in the AM....

nope, no wobbles and the inner seal was still good. Got it all together and everything seems bueno! $135 in parts and labor to have Make Model and Year press the new stuff on. Not bad in my book! Next up, LCA bushings.....mamma was so stoked she drag raced me home....and won.
