Removing Steering Rack Bushings

I'm in the process of replacing the bushings in my steering rack. I've got the sway bar off and removed the bolts, nut and bracket on the rack. After a bit of talking sweet i managed to ease it out enough to get at the bushings.

For the life of me i can't get the bushings out. My current strategy has been placing a socket over the metal sleeve in the bushing and wailing away with a hammer. All it seems to do is rebound. I have tried getting a grip on the metal sleeve with some vice grips but can't get enough force to yank it. I do know that the drivers side bushing has a washer attached and i am trying to drive it the right way...

Any recommendations? Is there anything i could lube them up with to make them easier to pull/drive out?

thanks
RC

I cut my old dry ones with a razor. only had to do one side and it slid right out. Get some wd40 in there too. channel locks for grip helped out too. For the middle one put the bolt back through it and hit it UP with a hammer. that one came out in 3sec for me.

Not sure what bushing your having trouble with but I used C-clamps that helped a lot with both removing and reinstalling...

Cut the old bushing some to help get it out...

Yeah, I just recently did this last month. Try lubing it up or like the others said cut it. I just hit mine out with a socket and hammer without problems, they will come out so don't be afraid to hit it.
