Remote rear window button

I recently camped a weekend in the 4 runner and it worked great except when you got hot or cold you had fumble through the front packed with stuff, find the key turn it on, hope the radio wasn't cranked find the rear window button and roll it up or down. Alot of hassle. I made something better.

I purchased a window universal switch from parts express for 10 bucks shipped, did a little wire tracing and Viola! I have window switch on the inside of the rear cargo hatch that you don't have to worry about the key.

I traced the wires off the key tumbler for the rear window. I hooked up the 3 wires up and cut a hole in the plastic cover.

Works great and a cheap mod too.

Here's a link to the pictures. http://picasaweb.google.com/ryan.ied...eat=directlink

I do have some pictures but it won't let me upload them. I have never had the problem before. I'll try again.

Updated above. Posted a link

do you still not have to have the key turned? I'm interested in a wiring guide as well.

If you pull the plastic cover off the lift gate you will see a plastic control box.

There's three wires running from the back of the switch key barrel down to the blue control box.

One white and black one which is the ground. It would be your center post on the switch.

Then there is a dark green with a yellow stripe and dark green with a red stripe. These are your +12v. One is up and one is down. They are located on the blue box. One row in from the passenger side stacked on top of each other.

They go on the momentary part of the switch.

You don't have to have the key on at all. Thats what makes it so slick. It's paralleling the key switch on the outside of the lift gate.

I was just sitting here thinking about this exact mod. Sounds simple.
I'm putting this on my list.

great idea ryani-dang you are one resourceful poster. I liked your input on the Unistrut cargo basket bracket mounting -copied that shamelessly and now this comes along.

Good to have you on here sir.

I was hoping someone may be able to provide some guidance on this mod.

I recently added the switch to the back and I cannot find the wire that triggers the window to roll up. ( Supposed to be green with red stripe but that wire doesn't work )

When I ground the green with a yellow it goes down no problem but .... I can't find the control wire that rolls it up.....

Any advice would be appreciated. My electrical experience is limited.
