If its cheap you could try it.
I think what you are looking for is stiffer springs most likely. Try the double shocks, if they suite your needs then go for that, if not it might be time to look into new springs

Sounds like dual shocks will take some metal fabrication. You need to find an area on the axle and an area on the frame of the SUV to weld on some aftermarket shock mounts. like the ones from, trail-gear.com
http://trail-gear.com/shocks.html
It will take some simple math and measuring.
Maybe someone else will have a solid idea but thats all i got.

oh okay.
You could try looking into an AIR RIDE suspension. I believe there are airbags that can go inside coils if that is what you have, and they also have airbags for leaf springs. Im not too familiar with them so you could look them up. I believe they help tremendously when carrying a lot of weight.

only thing is shipping is going to be pricey! air bags, or coil spring replacements would be my idea. could he get by with some air shocks (bolt in application) ?

Turbo3- If you know someone or somewhere that you can have some fabricating done, it would be easy to weld the mounts onto the axle and frame
