rear coolant lines rusted out

So today right before going on a 3 hour long round trip drive my coolant lines for the rear heater decided to take a crap on me. I noticed they were pretty rusty a few weeks ago but didn't realize how bad they were. When I took them out, they pretty much disintegrated with a light pulling.

When I went to pull the rear heater lines out of my parts 4Runner I saw they were almost rusted through on a part of the line so I gave up the idea of using those lines. For the time being, I just ran a piece of tube connecting the fittings for the rear heater.

Can I just replace the metal lines with black coolant hose and some couplings and be done with it? What was the purpose of the metal lines in the first place?

Or just leave it bypassed. I guess if you have kids or somebody in the back seat all the time it would be worth having. If not, why mess with it?

How can you bypass this?

I definitely do not need that rear heater to work

Just loop the send right back into the return like he did in the picture. It's the kinda dirty looking soft line about an inch from the top of the picture running side to side.

Or you can just plug them up. I just threw that piece of coolant line on there cause I was pressed for time and it was already attached. All I had to do was bend it around and plug it in.

or you can get the lines off of an '01 sr5 like mine that are stainless steel and never have to worry about it again
