A question for you Extended Cab Taco guys...
Do any of you wish you had more interior room?
I'm still debating on what my next upgrade will be. Also, did any of the 98-99 Tacos come with the 5sp, V6, and a locker. I'm probably going to go 2WD. Yes I know, why not 4WD? Well I don't have the use for it. In the last year and a half, I have only used it when I was messing around. So for me a 4WD is just more maintenance, worse gas mileage, and higher insurance. Plus I kind of miss the utility of a bed.
Usually it's only me in the 4runner so I don't think that the lack of seating is a problem.
So, tell me what you think.
Thanks

well, i can definitely advise you against getting a regular cab anyways. I like the look of a regular cab over an extra-cab, but man, i could really use the extra storage space.

Pros and cons to everything.
Double cab: Ok if you do have more than 2 people to transport on even a semi-regular frequency, BUT your bed length goes from 6' to 4'. YEEEESH......
Standard cab? Nice bobtail, but leg cramps and claustophobia are prone to happen.

You probably already know this but I thought I'd point it out anyway... the doublecabs do not come 5 speed. They're all automatics - unless, of course, you do a swap

I don't have a taco, but I do have a ext cab pickup. Its nice for two people, 3 is very uncomfortable, and 4 you might as well forget it (in a pickup, I dunno how much room a taco has). I wish I had the double cab, me and my friends wouldn't take so many vehicles to do stuff on the weekends, or I wouldn't have to squeeze in the back of a cabriolet.

Costa Rica is the closest source. I dream of the day I can buy a container full of cabs and ship it up here and sell them. Probably make my cost back a few times over.

My 2002 extra cab has worked very well for me. 95% time it's just me + a friend. Thus have all the room I need for people and tons of room for bikes, biking gear, camping gear, climbing gear, etc.
Hong
p.s. The other 5% invovled friends who are 5'5" or shorter and the extended cab worked out fine for 1 hr trips.

Taco
I've had (2) Tacos, both extended cabs, one 96 and 99, both 4x4s. I can't fit into a regular cab comfortably, so it was never an option. If I buy another Taco on down the road, it will be a double cab for sure, for room for my boys, tools, etc.

Thanks for the input guys.
I don't like being the driver when we go out, so a taco would be a good option. I guess the auto would be ok but after my 3.slow auto I was kinda leaning toward the 5speed. But the extra power of the 3.4L should be plenty sufficient with the auto. My sister's 3.4L auto seems to have plenty of power.
I came up with the idea for this poll after scrolling through Autotrader. I found a 98 extended cab, Taco V6, auto, TRD (I couldn't see if there was a switch so it could have been the sticker), with a 138K on it for 9K. It was in pretty good shape. I've heard so many stories about high mileage 3.4s not having any problems. After seeing this truck for sale I decided to continue pondering the idea of a Taco. Maybe I'll start saving for one soon.
Thanks again.

I've only owned extended cabs. More storage / items on hand without going back to the bed / reclining seats, etc., etc., make this far better than a standard cab (for me). The extended cab also offers more space for speakers (hee, hee).
I wouldn't mind having a Double Cab with a totally flat floor and jump seats (i.e., a double rigged like an XtraCab), 'cause I'd love to have even more 'interior' space (but not necessarily for passengers).
If you go to a 4-passenger Double Cab, people will consider you a candidate chauffeur... ;-)

I went back and forth for awhile. Opted for the Extended Cab.
Both my 8 & 7 yr old children fit back there just fine, so now everyone can go places in the truck (to do truck stuff )and leave the wifes 4Runner at home.

I had a 5spd Ex. Cab and it was great, especially for just me & the wife. Got rid of it since she can't drive a stick and it was becoming impractical for me. Wish I'd bought a D-Cab to start with, I'd still have it today. I miss the e-locker in my Tacoma!
