Gideon's Test

I began installing the inner/outer tie rods on my 2000 4Runner last night. When I got it all apart I found that the adjuster/jam nut tha locks the inner/outer shaft together is seized to the shaft of the outer tire rod end. The inner/outer tie rods that I purchased do not include this part, nor did it come with any of the replacement kits for the inner or outer tie rod ends at the local auto parts store. How do I go about getting this part? What exactly is it called?

did ya soak it in penetrating lubricant for a long time first?

Soak it for a while, then torch it, heat it up a bit. Should break free.

I soaked it for an hour or two. I also put it in a bench vise and torched to till it glowed, and even got desperate and used a pipe wrench on it. It moved, but turned a bit and siezed up again. In any event, it's torn up.

So back to my original question: How do I get a replacement?

If its just a jam nut that you need you should be able to go to an auto part store and match one up to the correct pitch/size

Thanks for the suggestion.
I tried that, however, none seemed to have any hardware that large (the shank diameter is at least 20mm)...

I know this thread has gone cold, but I ran into this issue just yesterday.

I called the local Toyota parts department and the 'Outer Tie Rod Lock Nuts' are about $2.50 each.

Given the pain it has already caused me, it is well worth the $5~6.

Toyota sells them for about $1 each. Just buy some new ones and be happy

I got my jam nuts at the hardware store, couple bucks. They weren't narrow like the stock ones, they were extra wide. The better to break loose later on when they rust.
