question about brushguard?

i have a 1998 4runner SR5 and was just at the local junkyard looking at a 1995 4runner with a brushguard, my question is will the 95 brushguard fit onto my 98? if not how hard is it to rig it on? i dont know the brand of the guard but for $100 its hard to pass up. if anybody has something better for sale for my model for around the same price feel free to offer

I'm pretty certain the frame mounts will be diferent size. Also, the body might be a little wider on the 3rd gen. I dont think its worth the hassle. You'll probably be able to get one as cheap on craigslist made for your truck. Brush guard or bumper are you talking about?

Why get a brush gaurd? They are purely for looks. if you wheel you need a real front bumper

I dont wheel hard so the need for an expensive "real" bumper isnt there yet. Maybe if i get a better job/decide to start wheeling alot then ill buy one. Right now i drive a totally stock 98 sr5 and occasionally go off road and mud. Currently i want the following in this order. Aussie locker. Brushguard. 3 1/2 in lift. Bigger tires ( have firestone destination a/t) . Fog lights/driving lights

Having the locker up there is great, next should be sliders. bumpers that offer protection dont have to cost alot. hell mine only cost me 90 bucks in steel.

You could probably custom fab mounts for it but as SC4runner said the body might be wider and look out of proportion to the vehicle. As far as 'wheeling mods you want to build the rig solely for your purpose. For mild trail riding a stock 4x4 is fine and even a rear locker might be beneficial but for a full blown rock crawler you'll do more mods than that. Once you get into more trickier stuff you'll probably then want to invest in sliders, bumper/winch combo, and lift kits/tires.

Welcome to yotatech! Get familiar with the search feature and you'll enjoy this site much more. You will soon be blaming us for a lighter wallet and more mods to your vehicle!

yeah man, brush guard is solely for looks really. Plus it's for them cheapies who want to look cool and think that their truck would be 100x safter with the brushguard. Sure you can push shopping carts out of the lot and do few fun things. But the full metal bumper will do a better job at protecting your front end if anything were to happen.

x2 on the sliders. you should really invest in that. i rarely wheel off the trails other than during hunting/mud seasons and camping trip. Sliders would be a good help when you get a lift installed *wink* I'll get one myself, so that i can step in and step out when i have the lift kit installed. However, that's not the only reason for the sliders.

just my 2 cents use it or blow it

I just took my rear mud flaps and running boards off, sliders will most likely come before the locker, simply becuz its cold as hell to be playing around with the locker assembly

Ya i have a brush guard and i would definitely get a front end metal bumper. Those are way more reliable then the brush guards bc they make ur car look better but like wat was said earlier they really have minimal function. I have one on my car bc my parents got it when we first got the 4runner. I will say that u can run over and push some things out of the way but not much if u plan on doing anything too crazy. They also suck if someone hits u bc the bracekts are weak and itll come back and hit into ur hood.

If ur really set on getting one and dont want a front end replacement then i would get the brush guard over not having anything up front. It does look nicer to and can be found on craigslist for decent prices. Like i just saw ann ad yesterday for the brush guard and tail light covers from a 98 4runner for 250 obo. It also makes the lift look nice...
