p0136 error solutions?
Trying to fight my enemy mr. p0136.
I have a 00 4runner cali spec 5vz auto.
My simulator is wired correctly the first time, i made precautions of grounding myself, unpluggint the neg terminal on the battery and soldering and heatshrinking the connections to the ECU.
I am running a test pipe, to delete the 2nd cat, and im running a magnaflow 18 muffler, with a turndown.
Things that i feel possibly might contribute to the p0136.
- Visually looking at the rear sensor there seems to be a gap where the sensor housing, 02 sensor gasket, and the flange mate. However with a finger test i dont feel no air coming out, as the motor is idling/running.
possible solution: File down the flange to make it even surface or find a way to provide better contact for the seating of the rear 02 sensor.
- The exhaust shop personnel might have damaged the sensor from heat, either from a torch or welding.
possible solution: replace and buy new rear 02 sensor from URD.
- The 02 sensor location is not at its actual distance from the first cat. Because of compications during the test pipe fabrication. Lets say originally the rear o2 sensor was 14 inches way now its only 4-5 inches away.
possible solution. reweld the 02 sensor mounting flange to the proper 14 inches "for example"
Faulty simulator/miswire "ighly unlikely"
Possible Solution:
I recently got an email from gadget authorizing return of the sensor. Great customer service And get a replacement simulator.
And last possible scenario, the rear 02 sensor has reached it life-span from wear and tear. Im guessing both sensors have gone through 148k miles of service. I did remember before my test pipe project to delete the 2nd cat i was getting a p0420 when i still had both cats.
- Possible solution:
Buy new rear 02 sensor from URD.
After my life story with the test pipe/simlator project. What course of action should i do.
I should have a new front 02 sensor coming in soon. And im thinking about buying a rear 02 sensor from URD to try my last stab and fighting this.

Man i feel like 4x4fink pulling hairs with this crud.

P0136 02 Sensor Circuit Bank 1 Sensor 2
That would normally be the rear O2 sensor, the wiring to it, or the ECU. I'm sure Gadget told you the URD simulator is just to get rid of a P0420. Did he say a faulty simulator could cause the P0136?
