Well, for all of you following my NYC search: The $16.9k 1999 Silver SR5 was a bust. The truck had lots of "cosmetic surgery" not revealed by CARFAX. VIN #s removed and then reglued; bald tires, etc.

So I'm back to looking at the $15.9 Black SR5 (which I hope to get for $15 even) with 46k miles. It's the BLACK one which I'm dreading; how do others out there feel about BLACK?

As a last resort, I'm going to look at a 1999 RED SR5, but the VIN# doesn't go through CARFAX (not that CARFAX has proven its worth), and the salesmen are very "foreign" and pushy. Listed at $13.9k and with only 48miles, this could be another SUCKER PUNCH.

White SR5

I like black, but have white, hehe. Surprisingly, I think black gets dirty more easily, as water spots show up. I was wondering something also. How much would a 2001 SR5 4WD with 25,000 miles, no roof rack or back wind deflector, no sunroof, and standard everything except 16" wheels have gone for about a year and 3 months ago? I'm wondering how good of a deal got. My father knows this guy who is constantly trading cars and finding good deals (he goes to private automotive auctions), and he found my car as well as my mother's and father's. To show you how much he trades, in the last 5 months, he's traded 2 H1's, one with every option you can imagine, a 1986 Bentley, and has gotten a top-quality 1997 Viper fo 36,000 no joke! He has his own collection of the nicest GT500 Shelby Mustang in the U.S., an old 'Cuda, the viper, a 1979 porshe (1 of 3 yellow ones made in 1979, and I could on... He found mine for just under $21,000. Good deal?

Black RULES. I would have o other colr Runner if I could help it. Everything you canpossibly buy aftermarket comes in black,you never eally have to pain anything. You can tint the windows and make them just flow into the body work. Then you can get some black steel rims, man if I didn't have to dmb this Runner I have now(engine probles, big ones, stupid lying 1st owners) I would be going for the black out process. All I need to do right now is get rid of the chrome bumbers and I will be one bad ass, all black Runner. Black is a pain in the butt I willadmit that though, you have to clean it alot if you really want her to shine, and you have to dry her fast when your washing too, to avoid water spots showing up all over the place, but to me it's all worth it. I love my black beauty.

I love black, and I will always own black. However, if you want a clean rig but don't want to spend a lot of time cleaning it, then black (any dark color for that matter) is proabably not for you. Dark colors look the best (imo) when clean, but are also the hardest to keep clean.

The 1999 model I'm supposed to buy tomorrow will go for between $15 and $15.9k

It has many options, and has never been taken off road. Since I have a bad back, I like it because it has an amazingly stable ride, unlike many other 4Runners I took for a test drive.

Color is a matter of choice. I just sold a
1995 black toyotat pickup. I t looked great.

I liked the black because it was the best looking
vehicle on the road .................... for one day.

I now have a white avalon and a desert dune
4runner.

Dont get a dark colored vehicle if you go off-roading. Not a smart move on my part.

Well, I'm not sure - you decide. It's a 1996 SR5 4x4 with ~72k miles. It's lifted with 32" tires. Roof rack, aux lights, and more. I don't want to change shocks/springs/tires, so the lift and tires will stay with the truck, most everything else is negotiable. $15,500 for the rig with lift, tires, tranny cooler, and Kenwood CD player.

about the BLACK runner,, i have one with the gold trim, and LOVE it, maybe its just that i love the Runner ?

I wish I would have gotten a black one. I think it looks so much better than my desert dune.

just about every car ive owned has been black, cept my runner. i love black, but white is SO much easier to keep clean. scratches dont show up as harsh as black. i think if you have a runner for show, go black; for offroading, dont go dark.

i agree with 4runner4life, black shows ALL the stratches, (but they are well worth it) and mine has a few, but i go from one extreme to an other, when it muddy, its covered, and when she`s clean, she gets a wash, wax and buffed. Ric
