Number of Cats?
I know this is a stupid question but I have searched for a long period of time and can't find the answer. I have a 2002 automatic 4runner (2wd)...how many cats do I have? 1 or 2? Please feel free to trash me...but after you answer the question.
Thanks,
David

You have two to conform to CA laws, done nationwide since other states are also adopting CA-style emissions laws.

I used the search feature but couldn't get an answer. I searched all kinds of combinations of "cats" and "number of cats" and "dual cats" and more...but couldn't find anything. Thanks anyways for the answer.

did you try catalytic or catalytic converter? Might've pulled up the answer then.
If you want a serious amount of information, type in "sarcasm" Oh wait, it only searches key words, not tone.

With an '02, its highly likely you have two catalytic convertors...
The procedure to check:
- Maybe put some newspaper on the ground so your clothes don't get dirty
- Grab a flashlight
- Down on both knees (silly, just to check under the car)
- Shine flashlight at long, ~3in diameter pipe running lengh of car
- Note number of sections with a enlarged, catalytic-converter looking thing
- Record number, and bask in new knowledge
(hehe, sorry, thought that might develop a little more 'tone')

Allright meow, I think we all know the easiest solution is to look. but really who has that kind of time. Meow you should just get your VIN and call the dealer. They should be able to tell you if its CA or not. The sooner the better, call em right meow.

Your truck had two converters from the factory.
Why do you want to know this any way?

In the province where I live in Canada, removing the cats is not illegal. The only thing we cannot do it modify or enlarge the tip of the muffler.

Gadget-
Funny you should ask...I needed to know so that I could order your fuel upgrades (I placed an order last night, order #1111) No, I do not want to remove them. My supercharged 4runner is just starving for more power , and the URD kit sounded like the way to go.
Thanks,
David
