New Aux. lighting

This weekend I installed some KC daylighters I had laying around.

I thought I would get fancy with the install, and used a opto-cupler instead of a relay. What I didnt know, is the opto-cupler has a 3V drop across it, so there was only 9V getting to the kc's. I also found out that there is only 10V getting to my headlights, with 12V still at the fuse block. Next weekend Im going to get some relays to replace the opto-cupler and get full voltage back to the headlights.

I just got them aimed last night, I havent driven with them too much, so im not sure about the shaking. They are drilled through plastic and 2 layers of metal, seemed pretty solid.

I used the lights on a over night drive through Jasper Park and they worked fantastic. No shaking at all and awsome light spread. Also, the stock headlights were amazing with the new wirering harness. I suggest anyone who hasnt done this, to do the wiring harness upgrade.

My Hella 500s are mounted the same way. I've got 3 on my front bumper and they don't move at all.

The wiring harness upgrade takes the original headlight plug as a high/low beam signal, then with a couple of relays, supplies the full battery voltage to your headlamps. My lights are unbelievebly brighter now. I suggest this mod to anyone who is still running thier stock headlights.

I made my own wiring harness. Here is a diagram of how I did it.

Or you can buy one from here.

This upgrade makes an unbelievable difference. And since your re-wiring, you mise well install some KC's while your at it.

Anybody ever try putting lights on the Roof Rack Cross Bar?

I dont' use the roof rack and Just wondering if anyone has tried.

If Yes, how did oyu mount them and where did you run the wires?

NC994Run has 4 Hella's mounted on his factory roof rack I believe. He might even have pics of them.

I've heard other guys mounting lights to their factory roof rack as well.
