Need help with manual hub conversion!
From what I've read, the conversion is.... well some write-ups make it sound easy, and some make it sound hard, but that's not my main concern. My main concern is: What are all the parts I need for the conversion?
I know I need the hubs of course, the gaskets, and well, what else? One write-up said I needed LOTS of stuff that added up to probably $1k. If I buy the hubs used, do I have to rebuild them, or is it just a good idea? I don't have a lot of money, so I really want to do only what I need to do. Someone please help me.

rebuilding them isn't a big deal. it's more or less taking them apart, cleaning and regreasing the hubs.
how did you come up with $1000 for an estimate. if you find a set of hubs for $50 in the junkyard and maybe spend 10-20 bucks on gaskets, you're pretty far ahead of that
it basically just involves unbolting the ADD flange and bolting the hubs on.. all they do is take the place of the flanges
sounds like you might have been looking at the conversion kits for newer tacos and 4runners where you have to replace a lot of stuff. putting manual hubs on an older truck is a bolt up affair

Ok, cool,... Yeah, I think I came up with the $1000 because it was Taco related. Mmmmm tacos.... damn, now I'm hungry.
Anyway, cool, I'll probably just do it then.
I still don't know exactly how it saves my CVs and... what else does it help save and HOW?

I just did it on my '93... hubs are only $100cdn ($50-75 US I would guess). You can use FIPK if you can't find the gaskets and it only takes like 20-30 mins of your time. It is that simple.
When you find a set of used hubs if they turn easily then you probably won't need to bother wasting the time to rebuild them. If they turn hard then it is faily easty to take them apart to clean them up a bit. DO NOT use a lot of grease, a little is all you need. To much actually makes them harder to turn and just trap dirt.
All hubs off of IFS trucks 86-95 are the same and will fit your truck. Solid axle hubs have a different spline count and will not fit. I don't know if tacos have a different spline count or not. I know that manual hubs were still an option in 96 anyway so i don't know why it seems to cost late taco/Runner owners so much. But I bought 3rd gen cause they were more simple anyway... and stronger to boot....
