Mobile Power Pack
Wasn't sure whether to put this in Off Topic or here so I flipped a coin.
This morning was a little embarrassing. I was on the way into the city to have breakfast at Denny's (4am, nothing in my area is open). I stopped at a gas station on the way down to get some coffee and the morning paper. I figured I'd just be a minute or two so I killed the engine but left the stereo and lights on and activated the alarm.
I ended up chatting to the gas jockey for quite a while (amazing to hear other peoples opinions about Iraq, the price of oil, why my province's Premier {like a state governor for you US types} should go to jail for drunk driving in Hawaii and so forth).
When I went to restart the 4Runner the ignition clicked, there was not enough juice to turn the starter. OOOPS I said along with a lot of "Stupid, Stupid Stupid" and various curse words.
Well as luck would have it I asked the fellow at the gas station for a jump start and he said sure as soon as he got back from the bathroom. So I search frantically in my storage boxes for the jumper cables, and open the hood, I figured I'd give it one more try and sure enough there was just enough juice to turn it over and reliable beast that she is she started on the first crank.
So to prevent having to jump start again I treated myself to this today.....
Canadian Tire Mobile Power Pack
It is 400 CCA has an on off switch to keep power off the 28" 4 gauge jump start posts, a set of LED indicator lights, 12 V plug in, charges off wall or 12V receptacle, weighs 19lbs and can be stored for 3 months without recharging.
I also looked at the Prestone one but it was $129 vs the $79 Canadian I paid for this one. I hemmed and hawed over whether to get the 500CCA one for $99 but I think this will do very nicely.
Now all I have to do is buy an extension cord to plug it in to and charge it and I will never have to ask for a again...well not a jump start anyway! at:

After my wife got stuck with a dead battery while I was out of town, I bought one for her car. Saved her on the next trip to the airport -- that's when we found out the battery was defective and just not accepting a full charge, but enough to keep the idiot lights off.
So I wound up buying another -- so we have one for her car, one for the truck. Well worth the peace of mind. Just charge every 3 months and hope you never need it.
By the way, in the US you can find them on sale nearly every week -- Sears has 2 or 3 models, usually one on sale. I believe tehy are made by Schumacher.
