Cool Minor Adjustments

ALL......chasing down a few minor adjustments on my recently purchased '97 runner. The clutch pedal has an irritating squeak in it, especially in cold weather, and the power antenna looks very dirty and un-greased. I am thinking that I can probably solve both problems with a rag and a can of spray silicone.

Any thoughts????

There is a TSB on the squeaky clutch problem. If your truck is still under warranty for some reason, they can fix it.

The power antenna is a pain. It will most likely break (just give it time). But to clean it: turn the radio on while you are washing the truck, and give it a good clean. Its a $30 part, so I wouldnt worry too much about lubricating it.

Here is the TSB link

Thanks...

I'm taking it in for the new rear springs tomorrow, and I'll ask the dealership if they'll fix that squeaky clutch pedal for me too.

One other item.....I'm having the dealership check it out, but will probably fix it myself when I get their $800 estimate......There's a chirping sound coming from the engine that sounds like a bad pulley. Anyone else seen this on the 3.4L V6?

Anytime I steam clean my engine I get "squeaky pulley" sydrome.
It usually goes away after 100 miles or so. I am not exactly sure what your case is...but I havent heard anything about this being a common problem on the 3.4L. The belt system is really simple on this motor (with electric fans anyway) and easy to get to. Its a bit harder with the stock fan assembly.

Did you look on the TSB list for that problem too?

I had the same problem with the clutch pedal in my old '90. Even the dealer was stymied (how 'bout that?).

Regarding the antenna, just wipe it down with a cloth. There was some discussion recently that ANY lubricant will attract dirt inside the housing.

Noticed a some squeaks from my pulleys. I've got a 3.0 in a '94. I just bought it and the squeak seems to be going away. I figure the dealer cleaned the engine before selling. I would like to know what your dealer says
