"Lucky" 2.7 starter fix?

Yea, I had it too on my 01, 4x4 ,2.7 Tacoma. That dreaded "Click" when I turned the key. One time it would start and the next it would click each time I turned the key and then start on the third or fourth click. After replacing my battery and we knew it was going bad, replacing the starter relay in the fuse box and pulling out most of my hair I removed the battery cables and climbed under the truck to take it out thinking of the money it's going to cost me if I have to replace it with a new one. I don't like or trust rebuilt starters.
Removed the rubber boot on the battery cable on the starter and decided to try something before doing anything else. Placed a ratchet on the nut holding the wire to the starter and it took me 3.5 turns to really tighten it.That's how loose it was!!!
Climbed out from under and hooked up the battery and it turns over about three times and starts fast every time. Tried it a few dozen times with no problems. Guess it pays to check one thing at a time. Mike
