Lowering 1999 4runner...
Hey, has anyone lowered their 1999 4Runner 4x4? I just want to lower the front, maybe 1 inch. Thinking about cutting 1/2 a coil... thanks in advance.

Bobby, no just wanted to lower it a little bit. Have a little bit of a rake. Unstead of when accelerating, front wants to rise. Keep it a little level. Figure if I lowered nose a little, weight transfer would not be so great. ( I also have a street/strip mustang that I lowered the front 3/4" and it helped keep the nose down a little.

Swap out the rear springs for OME 906. Should bring the back up around 3/4" to an inch.
...or to lower the front, swap the front springs with those from a 96 or 97. Should bring you down around an inch I believe. 98 springs will bring you down 1/2" if I remember right.

What ever you do, I wouldn't recommend cutting existing springs...though it may seem like a good idea, the springs are progressive...this means that if you cut them, you will change the manner in which they react to bumps, pot holes, etc. and will probably not be a nice ride...Pluse, you will wear out your shocks quicker...Cbrew325's idea is what I would do.

I understand the rear is low. It has sagged. The stock coils are known to sag.
Lets talk about the back first.
Inside the rear coils are some rubber Jounce bumpers. They are there to handle heavy loads. They should be not sitting on the lower spring perches when unloaded. Even if they are close, when you hit dips in the road they will come in contact and give a harsh ride.
As already mentioned you may want to replace the rear coils and get back to the stock rake. Old Man Emu (OME) 906 should be a good choice for a 99. If money is tight, toss on some OME 10mm rear spacers. They mount between the jounce bumper and the top of the coil.
Off to the front.
If you keep the rear where it is and still want to lower the front then, as already said, find some junkyard 2000,2001 front coils. If you go this route, you may want to cut one nugget off each jounce bumper so you don't constantly feel it.
