Angry Low fuel light acting up

my low fuel light keeps flickering on and off in my '98 - anyone have this prob ever? I JUST filled up the tank and found it quite odd that this would happen.

~thanks,

I remember my uncle's Caddy... it would lose 1/2 a tank of gas around every left turn and miraculously gain it back once we leveled off

I don't trust my guage or low fuel light at ALL. On non-level surfaces it gets all nuts. I just keep track of the gas I use and hope I don't get stuck somewhere.

aviator is correct, Toyota uses a seperate sender for the low fuel light. Downside is it's one with the level sender so it's not cheap to replace ($107 for my '86). You may also have a wire in the harness shorting out or a broken connection somewhere. I'm not sure if the low fuel light is based on an open or closed circuit, but you may want to look into that to help you diagnose it.

The one on my '85 Tercel would fade in and out as I went over hills and around twisty curves with low fuel. By my estimations there were 3 gallons or so of fuel in the tank when it first comes on. 3 gallons would take that car about 100 miles though.

If it's fading in and out, I bet its normal. If its truly flickering and there is plenty of fuel it sounds like a bad connection or a short circuit. It would be interesting to know the current and resistance readings from the FSM to learn how it works.
