Looking to buy a 4runner, I need advice.

Guys, & Gals- I'm looking to buy a used 4runner but I'm not sure what year I should buy. I have heard that Toyota has had some problems with their 6 cyd but it was changed in '96. My Dad has a '92 6cyd and had to have a valve job and was told it was a problem with the motor design. I'm not sure about the performance of the 4 cyd; I currently have a 4cyd 86 Toyota pickup with 300k+ miles on it and still running. I'm not sure if I need the 6cyd though I would imagine the 4runner is a little heavier. Give me some advice on what I should get... I plan on taking it to the snow every weekend and having 4wd

This probably won't be much help but I'd suggest you get the most recent model you can afford. The 1996+ have substantially more power than previous 4Runners.

Good Luck!

Consumer Report

I would recommend buying as new a 4Runner as you can afford as well. Consumer report has nothing but excellent praise for everything from the 3rd generation (96) up and I love my 2000 SR5 4x4.
