Light Mounts-fabbing
I have a surco safari rack...and just bought some hellas. has anyone fabbed thier own light mounts? i think they are 40 a pair and im gonna need 3 pairs. Thats more than i spend on my lights!! if u fabbed your own..could you post some pics and how u did it. sounds trivial, but thanks

Yeah, it sucks. I got mine for less than $30 pair at Summit racing, hey are A1 quality though. Very sturdy so the weight of the lights dont make em' bounce around.

someone should post pics of light mounts so he can see the basic design of them. i'd personally like to see myself aswell. some folks are much better learners with pictures, i'm like a big 4yr old!

I'll post pics of the ones made for my wilderness rack, tomorrow (when it's light out so I can get a good picture of them). You can easily use the same concept for your surco.

Illustration instead of pictures
Well I haven't had a chance to take a picture, but I drew you a picture. Mine are made by Wilderness (Garvin-Industries) and are the illustration in the upper right corner. The alternate is middle bottom. It would be far easier to make those bends...Also my brackets are made from 1/4 steel, ti's hard to bend without the proper equipment. They are also powder coated, which is nice and I think makes it worth it.

Dude, Surco makes them and autoeverything.com sells them for $29 bucks a pair. They are well worth it. Powdercoated for starters and they clamp to your rack so you dont have to butcher your rack with holes...... and you can change configurations for side and rear lights.

on my explorer with a wrangler windshield.. i saw that stores sold a braket for adding lights to the wrangler windshield... well, i got some rubberized undercoating stuff that i already had... fired up the welded and welded on a plate that i cut with the sawzall and drilled.... total cost... about $1 for the metal...

They're real simple, theres a plate with a hole big enough for the bolt to mount the light, and four smaller holes on one end to hold a "bridge" bracket that clamps over the surco rack railing. That sounds kind of complicated...they'd be realy easy to fab up.

Here's a real quick drawing of what mine look like. The piece to the right is the piece that actually attaches the light plate to the railing of the rack. That bridge bracket is as wide as the plate and there are four holes in them, the little humps on the picture is supposed to show the bolts on em...sorry for the bad quality.
I did it in 5 minutes so sorry if it doesn't look that great!

Here are my homemade brackets. They are just out of some aluminum. I drilled holes in my Yak Rack and used plastic standoff's to mount them. Lot's of measuring to get it all even but the end result was great.

Lowes sells aluminum bars 1/8" x 2" x 36" that can be cut and bent/hammered into numerous configurations. The mounts I made required drilling into my rack. I made my shovel mounts using 1/8"x2"x4" aluminum bar and Quik-Fist mounts.

I have the Urban rack and would like to get/make 2 sets of brackets as well. I could get a basic L bracket from HD, but I don't think it's thick enough metal. Any luck fabbing these for CHEAP?
