Lift on the cheap

I know this has been covered time and time again but everyone I have read has been helpful just didnt really pertain to me. so heres what I got. A 97 runner that sees limited trails and by trails I meen 99% highway .7 dirtroads .3 trails.
So im looking to do this cheap my front shocks are blown both sides. SO i wanna replace them and mabey just space the front and 99 or LC coil the rear? I also do some towing trailer nothing major mostly a bike trailer and mabey a small pop up.

whould a wabfab kit be my calling with new shocks? I wanna keep the total under 500. and im looking for 1.5-2in and dont feel like dropping my diff.

Thanks for the help!

I would check out Cornfed suspension (www.cornfedsuspension.com) for the spacers and then look into what other kits include as far as shocks go

Can you stretch your limit a bit? OME lifts are ~$650 shipped. No crappy spacer and will be a LOT nicer ride. You will get a system that was made to work with each other smoothly. It will give you a 2.5" lift, so no need for a diff drop.

don't go with LC coils . the 99 will give you maybe 1" lift. the lc will give you probably 4+". if you're honestly looking for a 1-2" lift then a OME lift wouldn't work because that's a 3" lift. PP springs will also give you appx. one inch lift. first and foremost look into how much the struts and shocks will be. you gotta take care of that first.

honestly i think the more you read up the more you'll find out you'll want a bigger lift. at least 3".

Ok, no offense, man, but why are you bringing up 2nd Gen prices? It has no relevance here. Let's not confuse the guy.

etan - OME 880/906 kit advertises a 2.5" lift. If you go 3" or more, they say that a diff drop is necessary.

well how much more can it be for 2nd gen shocks vs. 3rd gen ones? that and some springs which are virtually the same.

i also recommended someone who puts together ome packages for 4runner, and who sells them for cheaper than other competitors.

so dont tell me im irrelevant.

Not even close......OME 906's will net a 01-02 4runner (lowest ride height years) about 2" total after settling.

If you really don't want to spend more than $500 then just get the OME springs and reuse your shocks until you can afford to upgrade those as well.

If you want spacers. I've got the cornfed 2" lift spacers from burtmanindustries.com. I'll sell them to you for 150 plus shipping.

for $200 you can get a daystar 1-1/4" spacer for the front and get the OME 906's for the rear. And for about $200 more, you can get all 4 trekmaster shocks for your 4runner. That's $400 total...if you don't like the spacer idea up front, then add about $80 more for OME 881 front coils and your still under your $500 budget. You will have a complete set-up either way.

I'm not going to argue with you on this thread. But I'll let you look for yourself. http://rocky-road.com/4runner.html

Back to topic - Personally, I will be ordering 881/906 combo from trdparts4u.com. I'll match those to N86C/N91SC per MTL_4runner's suggestion. It should give me a very comfortable ride. If not, I'll be heading up to Canada to break some knee caps.

hey shift where are you getting these prices who puts that together. obviously if i can get new shocks and coils within my budget then that is the best way. but the reason I brought up spacers is that IF I HAD TO to stay in budget then my biggest things where blown shocks and saggy rear. the tekomasters are pretty cheap and lifetime warranty. as far as going over 3in.. why would I want to do that? This truck isn't getting anything over 285-75-16's and I only take it off road to find good places to ride. I have a dual-cased, locked taco on 38's for the trails (see avatar).

I am using the spacers up front because I have the taller 99 coils that are only about 1/4" shorter than the 881's. Using the spacers in the front is saving me about $140 for the front coils. I am also putting 890's in the rears. I thought you only wanted 2" max lift. The 881/906 combo will not be good to run 285's, they may fit, but will rub unless you have a body lift or tons of trimming. You can get that combo now while you have the 265s and then add a 1" body lift when you upgrade tires. If you get the lift for the 285's now, you will be looking at about $280 plus shipping for 881/890 from trdparts4u.com, $204 for the trekmasters from ajusa.com and you still need the spacer for the 881's than can be had from wabfaboffroad or toytec for $60. So you are around $600 for everything shipped to your door for the 3" lift. But with that lift I would do a diff drop and the rear panhard bracket for piece of mind...which is not included with that price. There are so many ways to go, you just need to decide what is right for you.

p.s. if you can find a good set of used 99 coils, you can go the frankenstrut route for your front lift. Search frankenstrut and you will see what I am talking about. That is kinda what I am doing, but I am just putting the 1-1/4" daystar spacer on the 99 coil that give a similar result. it was one of the best setups for the 3rd gen front before the tundra lift was discovered.

Be sure to bring your crampons, nothing but -25 temps and sheer ice up here right now.
