Just purchased 1999 T4R SR5 "highlander" 4WD
Hi everyone, I just got my own 4runner! Our family owns a 1993 & 4 Hilux 4x4 trucks V6 and 4cyl. 2006 4Runner Sport Edition 4WD and now that I've moved to Portland Oregon for school, I decided to save up and purchase my very own 3rd generation runner! I'm planning a suspension lift as soon as possible. OME 3" kit or maybe LC coils route. pros and cons on that?! I'm not going to be doing major off roading, mostly road driving, occasional off road and heading up the mountains for snowboarding. Here are some pictures off the lot I bought it at. Enjoy! Also if you have a forest green front grille, clear corners, 01-02 tail lights, HIT ME UP!

Elton, I saw those 7.2's and they are a nice lift but i can't afford that. I'm looking for that kinda setup but for half the price. Yea i'll definitely be needing the help when I do get a lift so thank you in advance!
Brian, Thanks!! i'm super excited. its got 109k miles and auto tran. Any advice for a good cheap 3-4 inch lift?

ok lets do some math Bilstein 5100 Height adjustable front shocks plus ome 882 coils is $360 dollars plus shipping and $30-50? dollars to have it put together at a shop dont wanna mess with them coils there stiff ... for the rear some LC80 coils around $50-100 rear shocks could go cheap like me for around 100 ish shipped for skyjacker nitro 8000's a sonoran steel panhard bar $175 and diff drop $45 and a rear longet brake line $35 plus shipping

109K is low for a '99, good find! I like my OME setup I got at toytec.com. Since you have stock bumpers, I recommend the 881s w/ top plate spacers for the front and 890s for the rear w/ OME shocks all the way around and a diff drop. I also recommend paying an extra $100 and having toytec assemble the fronts cuz it'll make the job a lot easier. This particular set up is about $940 shipped from toytec.com.

welcome to the forums man.. Very nice ride, I love that color. OME coils are your best bet if you wanna stick to the cheaper side of things (compared to SS 7.2). Sonaran Steel kits are expensive because they consist of 'do it all at once' items and most people buy different items, different times, which either way is fine. It's hard to dish out the money all at once. Those LC80 coils give the rear a mighty big boost. Make sure you wanna go that high first. Remember, anything over 2.5" suspension first thing I would get is a diff drop. You're cv's will not like you otherwise. 3" is maxing it and anything over good luck. Some people have their thoughts but I'm just going by experience. I've gone through one cv already and my other side is bout to go too. I've only had my lift for 1 month.. Good luck with whatever you decide.

thanks guys! I decided to hold off on the lift and work on cosmetic upgrades as well as electronics. all while saving up for a lift and tires. Where can I find a thread of members posting up a pictorial description of mods to their 3rd gen. I want to look around and get ideas. Thanks!

Hey there, welcome to Yotatech. Check my sig for info on my '97. What takes you to Portland? I went to chiro college there with lots of Canadians - I love the pacific NW. I also had friends in med and dental schools. Check here for info on other third gen rigs: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f79/

awesome, thank you so much guys. Knowing that I have useful resources in a friendly community like this is great. I'm only 20 so I'm just broke college student trying to enjoy his 4runner!
I had another question about my trim tho, WIth the hood scoop, small flares etc, I hear that my 4runner is nicknamed the "highlander" edition. How rare were these and what's the pro's and con's compared to an sr5 or limited?

Is there a way to install an E-lock on mine? and if so how much am I looking at? I don't think I'll need it since I'm not a big off-roader "YET" but just curious
