Question Just a couple of questions

For the couple of months I have been looking at a couple of 4Runners, and have finally decided that I would like to purchase one.

I have found a prety nice '94 here in Eastern Oregon. The problem with this vehicle is the transmission will not shift into overdrive. I don't know a whole lot about these cars, so I don't know if it could just be something electronic, or if maybe a filter needs to be changed, or if the tranny is just bad. The vehicle also needs to have the ABS sensors replaced. The good thing about this 4Runner is that everything else works, and I can probably pick it up fairly cheap so I would be able to replace the tranny if needed.

Please let me know what I can do here. Also, what is the cost of a replacement tranny, and where can I find them?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

The auto will not shift into OD until the transmission is up to temp. Try a longer test drive. The ABS sensor is in the center of the rear diff - perhaps the harness is unplugged.

Get a '96. You'll like the 3.4L v6 a lot better than the underpowered 3.0L.

I will worry about the ABS if I purchase the vehicle. The 4Runner was at temp, we drove it around for close to 1/2 a hour (both city and rural roads) It's like it didn't even try to shift. All the lights worked saying O/D Off and stuff, so I know it's not the switch.

Thanks,

Ryan
